Safety and Ventilation
Safety & Ventilation

Bucyrus Mining Engineers have state-of-the-art technologies in the areas of safety and ventilation, including technology from German mines.

The company offers a complete range of services from concept development to the delivery of individual solutions and training of personnel.

Mine Ventilation and Air Conditioning
Over recent decades ever greater mining depth and the amalgamation of individual mines has led to the formation of major mine complexes mining at depths of 1000 and 1500 meters with complex ventilation networks.

  • Surveying and visualization of the current ventilation situation
  • Planning and visualization of an optimized ventilation network with climatic forecasting
  • Concepts for measurement of ventilation currents underground and transmission of measured values to above-ground safety center
  • Visualization and evaluation of the measured values in above-ground safety center
  • Information and training of engineers, specialist for mine ventilation and employees
  • Support the installation, commissioning and normal operation of systems by experienced DBT Mining Engineers personnel

Gas Suppression and Utilization
As a result of ever greater depths mined in Germany and the resulting increase in gas content of seams, powerful technologies for methane gas suppression, recovery and utilization were developed early, especially in the Saar region.

For over 60 years in the Saar region, methane has been recovered and utilized from active and disused mines. In 2001 alone, a total of 370.000.000 m3 of crude gas with an average CH4 content of 48% was extracted underground and fed into a surface network with a length of 110 km.
