Plow Systems
The use of fully automated plow systems is an economically very attractive method of mining low and medium seam heights. This mining technology has repeatedly proven its strengths with high extraction and loading rate in seams of 0.6-1.8m results in mining of up to 1.500 t/h. . The plow body is pulled along the coal face by an continuous chain over a plow guide welded to the face conveyor at speeds of up to 3.6m/s with cutting depths of up to 250mm.

Key Features
• Low-profile plow systems produce minimum dust load in the
longwall, reduced wear and lower processing costs.
• Plow Horizon Control
• Overload Protection
• Incremental plowing
• Block anchorages, prevent plow/face conveyor drifting by keeping
the plow system conveyor aligned with the shield supports.

Automation and Incremental Plowing
Control and automation are the most important features of modern high-efficiency plow technology. Automation is the top contributor in the increased performance and productivity of plow longwalls.

• Plow position, speed and direction are constantly monitored
• Defined advance of the pan line and plow after each pass
• Integrated fault correction (resulting in a straight longwall)
• Initiates automatic cycling of the shield support
• Remote plow control via the MCU
• Status of shield support, plow position, face layout etc.
• No plow operators required on the face during automatic operation

Plow Horizon Control
Plow horizon control system is an outrigger steering system allowing steering of the AFC and plow within very fine limits. This is particularly important when operating in seams with a soft or undulating floor. The outrigger cylinders arranged between face conveyor and relay bar are extended or retracted as required.

Plowing with a defined depth of cut allows to maintain the pre-selected cutting horizon without any problems. An adjustment of the bottom bits is thus only necessary in exceptional cases.

Advantages
• Defined depth of cut maintains a cutting horizon without problems
• Minimized percentage of reject in the run-of-mine coal
• Reduced preparation costs
• Automation from electro hydraulic controls and sensors.

Overload Protection
An overload safety system comprising of a UEL-gearbox with an electronic control unit is used to protect chain conveyors and plow systems against mechanical damage during operation.

Advantages
• Increased life of conveyor and plow chain and chain sprockets.
