PMC®-R
The PMC®-R system represents the next generation of
state-of-the-art automated control for longwall roof support
applications. The development of the PMC®-R system began by
identifying the hardware and software features which have
made Bucyrus’ PM4 control system so globally successful ever
since its introduction in 1993.
The system is designed to survive the rigorous duty and
harsh underground environment encountered in longwall
mining. It complies with international standards governing
intrinsically safe and explosion proof systems such as PrEN
1804 part 4 as well as a majority of the mechanical and
environmental requirements of specific global operators.

In the PMC® system, a Shield Control Unit (SCU) is
mounted on every shield. Each SCU is equipped with
the face operating program, creating a network of
independent logical controls, making it possible to
perform multiple face operations simultaneously.
Faults are easily diagnosed and repaired because
each SCU can interrogate its neighbors to quickly
determine to source of the problem. All SCUs are
identical, can be exchanged with any other SCU, and
will immediately be accepted in that face position
without the need for any identification or
termination plugs.
